Creating Survey
When you are ready to create a new survey, click on the button Create New Survey located on the page header of your account. Then choose one of the options: Start from scratch, copy an existing survey, or search surveys and templates.
From survey BUILDER you can use over 15 question types to your survey. QUESTION BANK is another section from where you can add ready made questions. However you can edit your question text and customize them as per need.
Another way to add questions is through the QUESTION BANK. It is a library containing over 10 categories with hundreds of ready-made questions that you can use to your survey.
To save time, you can use a survey template with pre-made questions that match your project’s goal. If you use a template, the survey designs and questions can still be personalized. You can edit questions, add or remove questions, and change the appearance and design of the survey.
This is a guide to designing your survey. If you’re having difficulties in finding a specific feature, or you have any questions on how to do the next steps, click the small icon at the lower right corner of the page to find answers in our Help Center.
Preview and test your survey prior sending to your respondents to make sure that everything is working fine. There are some limitations when editing a live survey, so before sending it out, it’s necessary to check some possible problems with your survey design.
Cloning a survey in your account creates a duplicate version of a survey. This option allows you to make a copy of an existing survey with ease because you don’t have to start from scratch or re-create past surveys you’ve sent.

Question Types
Available Question Types and Features
From survey BUILDER you can use over 15 question types to your survey. QUESTION BANK is another section from where you can add ready made questions. However you can edit your question text and customize them as per need.

It is a simple, closed-ended question type that lets respondents to select one or multiple answers from a defined list of choices.
Dropdown is a closed-ended question that allows respondents to choose one answer choice from a list of choices presented in a dropdown menu.
The Star Rating question lets respondents evaluate a statement on a visual scale of stars, hearts, thumbs, or smilies. A weight is assigned to each icon in the scale, so a weighted average is calculated in the Analyze Results section.
Matrix / Rating Scale Question
A Matrix question is a closed-ended question that asks respondents to evaluate the row items using a consistent set of column choices.
The File Upload question lets respondents attach files to their response.
The Ranking question asks respondents to rearrange items by placing them in order of preference.
The Net Promoter® Score (NPS) question allows you to evaluate your company’s performance. Your NPS represents the net percentage of your customers who are promoters of your company and brand.
Matrix of Dropdown Menus Question
The Matrix of Dropdown Menus question allows respondents to evaluate several items using the same set of measurements by choosing from a preset list of answer choices.
Slider question lets respondents rate an item or statement on a numerical scale by dragging an interactive slider.
The Single Textbox question allows you to collect short open-ended answers from respondents.
The Multiple Textboxes question allows you to collect multiple open-ended answers with a single question. You can also configure this question to collect numerical data only.
With the Comment Box question you can collect long open-ended responses.
Contact Information Question (Demographic)
With the Contact Information question you can collect respondent’s demographic information through a single question.
With the Date/Time question you can collect date and time information in a consistent format.
Multiple Image Choice Question
Multiple Image Choice question is a close-ended type that allows you to use images as answer options. This question type also lets respondents to select one or multiple answers from a list of image choices.
The Text question type allows you to create your own customized questions or simply insert a text. You can also use this question type to create a statement to your survey design to provide further instructions to your respondents.
Image question type is a close-ended question that allows you to add images that are separate from any questions, add images containing question texts, or add images as answer options. You may also use this question type for illustrations and additional design to your survey.
Image A/B Test question is a close-ended type that allows you to randomly display different images to different respondents. When you analyze your results, you can assess how the different images affected respondents and drew responses.
Text A/B Test question is a close-ended question type allows you to randomly display different versions of a question/text and set the percentage of respondents that will be shown each variable. When you analyze your results, you can assess how the different versions affected respondents and drew responses.
Stop watch is a question type that lets respondents use an actual timer to answer a specific question. This type of question also requires the respondent to perform such action to determine the answer.
The Homunculus question type allows you to capture visual patient data, based on patients choosing the area of discomfort felt in the body. This single question type can detect 24 pain locations on the front side and 29 locations on the back of the human body.
Max Diff is a question type that allows you to obtain preference and importance scores for multiple items. It is easy to use and applicable to a wider variety of research situations. Max Diff is also known as “best-worst scaling”.
Question Settings
Add and edit questions after creating your survey and naming it. Modifying an existing question or adding up a new one is very easy by simply clicking on a question to edit.
Deleting a question in the survey will also delete any collected responses related to the question. Deleted questions will not be restored.
From the options within Design Survey tab you can move an existing question to another position within your survey.

Randomization can help minimize order bias and improve the accuracy of your results. One way to do this in Surview is to use Page & Question Randomization to adjust the order in which people see when taking your survey.
To Add an N/A (Not Applicable) Option
Adding an N/A (Not Applicable) option gives the respondent a choice to opt out of the question if the answer options are not relevant to them, instead of choosing imprecise answer.
To Require an Answer to a Survey Question
You can make any questions in your survey required so that respondents are unable to skip a question and must answer it before completing the survey.
To add an “Other” Answer Option
Adding “Other” as an answer option allows respondents to either add information about their choice, or provide an alternative answer if the available answer choices do not apply to them.
Adding a Skip Logic to a Question
Adding Skip Logic to a survey question allows you to skip respondents to a later page based on their response to a previous question.
Adding Weights to Survey Responses
Adding a weight to each answer option helps you to examine your data in a way that includes the responses of every single person who answered a question.

Satisfaction Levels Calculations
CSAT stands for Customer Satisfaction and is a score that indicates how happy or satisfied a customer is with the products or services offered.
Open-ended Text Fields Validation
There are some open-ended question types that allows you to set restrictions on the type or number of answers the respondents will provide. These restrictions are set in EDIT tab of the question settings.
Validating a Question to Only Allow Numerical Data
Multiple Textboxes question can be validated to only allow numerical data and require all fields to a fixed sum. Those fields will only accept positive whole numbers.
Assigning Numerical Values to Answer Choices
To help you analyze the results, here are some ways you can assign numerical values to answer choices.
Applying Logic
Logic is a survey feature that allows you to customize a survey for each respondent. It offers ways to get responses in a more significant way.
Page Skip Logic option allows you to select a page where you want the respondents to move after completing the current page.
Page Randomization – this option reorder survey pages and it will be shown randomly for each new respondent.
Question Randomization – this logic helps you to eliminate question order bias, improve overall data quality and allows you to randomize or flip all of a page’s questions, or just a particular set of questions.
Text, Images & Videos
Adding texts let you create your own customized question, insert an additional text or statement to your survey design to provide further instructions to your respondents.
This question type does not require an answer. It exists only to display additional content. With Image question type you can insert an image into your survey by uploading an image file or specifying the URL of an image on the web.
Adding videos to your survey can help you create your own customized question, insert a video to your survey design to provide further instructions to your respondents.
Adding or editing a logo is very simple and easy. When you add a logo, it appears in the survey header, so your branding will carry through the entire survey experience.
Inserting an additional text to your survey design provides extra context or instruction to your respondents.
Themes & Display Settings
You can customize it by choosing from our pre-made visual themes or upload your own logo or background image to personalize your survey.
You can choose from 12 existing visual themes on the Design Survey page. If you wish to create your own theme, use custom theme options, available in Surview.
Custom theme options allow you to brand your survey as per your choice. You can change colours, fonts – their attributes and other visual elements.
The Team theme tab allows you to add members/users who have an active Surview account. This theme type is perfect for organizations where several members need to create and access surveys.
You can add your organization’s logo to brand your survey. The logo appears in the survey header, so your branding will carry through the entire survey experience.
Survey title appears at the top of each survey page. You can customize title of your survey by using these options. You can also choose to hide it.
Exit Link gives an option to respondents to leave the survey without saving the responses entered or without completing the survey.
Progress bar lets respondents see how much they have completed the survey and remind them how much they still need to complete.
Page Titles and Page Descriptions
Page titles and Page descriptions are text fields that can be used to add a topic header to each page of your survey.
Page numbers are hidden from the survey by default, however, you have the option to show it.
By default, question numbers are being displayed as soon as you add questions in your survey.
Questions in your survey can be made required. It means, you can make any questions required so that the respondents cannot skip that required question and must be answered in order to proceed to the next one.
By default, the “Powered by Surview” footer is being displayed at the bottom of your survey. You can remove or change your survey footer depending on your subscription.
Users can navigate through a survey using the buttons for navigation.
Managing and Rearranging Survey Pages
You can add a new page anywhere on your survey—at the beginning of the design, in between existing pages, or at the end of the design.
You can title each page and add a page description for respondents to see when they access that page of the survey.
You can change the order of pages by moving them from one position to the other within the survey design.
You can copy an existing page (and its questions) and paste it elsewhere in the survey which results in two identical pages.
You can delete all questions on the page, or move all questions to the page above it.

Add a Custom Thank You to the end of your survey to express your gratitude to the respondents who have participated in your survey.

Page Titles and Page Descriptions
Page titles and Page descriptions are text fields that can be used to add a topic header to each page of your survey. This is optional, but it makes your questions and page layouts easier to construct.
Survey Introduction Page is very important in every survey. It serves as a welcome page to the respondents and must include information that should answer any questions they may have about the purpose of the survey you are conducting.
Editing Live Surveys
Once the survey has been sent, it is considered to be live. If there’s no responses collected yet, you can fully edit the survey.
Managing Survey Collector Settings
Collectors are being used to send surveys and collect responses. Each collector type have different sets of settings that’s why they work differently.
Once you finish creating your survey, you have to choose a collector to send and collect responses. Your respondents will know if your survey is open or close by the status of your collector.
Organizing Surveys
Organize and manage your surveys in the All Surveys section of your Dashboard. Use Folders to arrange surveys for easy access.

Send a Survey Copy to Other Accounts
Send a survey copy to other accounts with a paid Surview plan. The other user will receive the complete copy of your survey (pages, questions, logic information, etc.) except the responses collected for that survey.
Transfer a Survey to Other Accounts
Transfer a survey to other accounts with a paid Surview plan. The whole survey including its design, logic, collectors and responses will be transferred to the other account.
There are three ways in deleting survey responses. You can delete the responses individually, deleting all the responses from a collector or delete all the responses of the survey.
If you delete a survey, the whole survey including its design, logic, collectors and responses are permanently deleted.
Organizing Your Surveys with Folders
Try organizing your surveys with folders. In the All Surveys section of your dashboard, you can create your own folders or use the folders automatically created to help you organize your survey list.
If you’re supposed to take an online survey but you don’t have the survey link or URL, contact the survey creator who asked you to take the survey to send you the survey link or the URL.
Language
Surview is currently available in English and Arabic. Selecting one of these languages translates the navigation of the survey as well as the information of the help and guides.
Your survey account language is being selected upon signing up to our system. Once you have chosen your preferred language, it will be set as a default language for your account.
Dual Language Interface (DLI) enables Surview to offer the end user a survey in 2 languages particularly and strictly for right now English and Arabic (or generally speaking one left-to-right language and one right-to-left).
Ways to Collect
After you’ve designed and checked your survey, choose one from many collectors available to send out your survey and collect responses.
A collector is a means to distribute your survey to respondents and collect responses. The collector type you choose determines how your survey will reach your audience.
We offer 10 collector types, namely: Email, Web Link, Social Media, Offline Surveys, Mobile Embed, Website, Manually, Phone Surveys, WhatsApp Surveys and Targeted Audience. In addition to these you can also enter the responses manually.
You can use the Email collector to create an email distribution list. You can also customize the invitation message; schedule the delivery and manage/track your survey respondents.
The Web Link collector generates a survey URL through which all respondents can access the survey. This collector allows you can send or post the survey anywhere you’d like.
With Social Media collector you can post your survey on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Create a link to post to your Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn wall, or to send to your friends and survey respondents.
Website collector allow you to: Embed the survey on your site; Create a survey popup; Create a popup invitation to take the survey
Integrate your surveys and responses directly in your mobile app for customer feedback about their in-app experience.
You can use offline survey collector anytime and anywhere with our Surview Everywhere mobile app. This collector allows you to collect responses on field or offline responses without internet or any data connection.
We will identify and arrange targeted audience / respondents on your behalf.

Managing Survey Collector Settings
Collectors are being used to send surveys and collect responses. Each collector type have different sets of settings that’s why they work differently.
Once you finish creating your survey, you have to choose a collector to send and collect responses. Respondents can check the survey status if Open or Close.
Allow Multiple Responses in a Survey
Respondents can take your survey for more than once if you allow multiple responses in a survey. This collector setting is useful if you collect responses from respondents on a shared device such as computer, laptop or tablet based surveys.
Create a Custom URL ending of Web Link and Social Media Collectors to make the link more related to your survey, respondents and organization.
You may allow the respondents to edit their surveys by enabling the survey Response Editing option from collector settings or turn it off to prohibit them from changing their responses.
This setting allows you to set certain survey response limits for your survey respondents. Once those required responses are received, the survey will automatically close.
Add a Custom Thank You to the end of your survey to express your gratitude to the respondents who have participated in your survey.
You can choose what your respondents see after they complete your survey by customizing the Survey End Page in a collector setting.
IP Restrictions & Password Protection
You can control who can take your survey by using an IP restrictions & password protection options from the collector settings.
Use custom disqualification option to redirect your respondents to a specific page or link after choosing a particular answer that disqualifies them from your survey.

Response Tracking & Anonymity
There are a lot of ways to track respondents in Surview. By default, the IP addresses of the respondents are being tracked in most collector types.
Anonymous Responses is a collector’s setting that gives you options whether not to track or save respondent’s identity in survey results.
Email invitation tracking allows you to monitor the actions of your respondents towards the survey sent via email. You can check whether your recipients opened your invitation, clicked through to the survey, responded to your survey, or opted out of your survey in the Overview tab of the collector.
By default, when someone responded to your survey, their IP address is recorded as metadata with your survey results in analyze results tab.
Email Invite Collector Settings
You can use the Email collector to create an email distribution list. You can also customize the invitation message; schedule the delivery and manage/track your survey respondents.
Create custom email invitation and track who responds. In composing email invitation, you can customize the subject and the message body. Send follow up reminders to those who haven’t responded.
Add Recipients to Email Invitations
Add recipients to email invitations via CSV, GMail, Outlook or manually import your file. You can also type in your recipients’ email addresses directly in the Send To section.
Email invitation tracking allows you to monitor the actions of your respondents towards the survey sent via email. You can check whether your recipients opened your invitation, clicked through to the survey, responded to your survey, or opted out of your survey in the Overview tab of the collector.
Email Invitation and Contact Limits
In Email Invitation collector there are certain limits when it comes to sending emails, importing contacts and character limits.
The Sender email address is the contact information through which respondents will receive a survey invite and what the respondents can see in the From field of your email invitations.
Sending Reminder and Thank You Emails
Once you sent your Email Invitation, you can follow up with your contacts that haven’t taken your survey yet or thank those who have responded by sending reminder and thank you emails.
Monitoring Responses
Analysis of survey results is a real-time experience in Surview. As soon as respondents start submitting their responses you can start analyzing survey results. It’s a great idea to check through the summaries for each question to get a feel for how people have responded.
The Summary page of your Surview account displays an overview of your survey design, information about the collector and the details of the responses.
Once the survey has been sent, it is considered to be live. If there’s no responses collected yet, you can fully edit the survey.

If you’re supposed to take an online survey but you don’t have the survey link or URL, contact the survey creator who asked you to take the survey to send you the survey link or the URL.
When you clicked on a survey link and saw that responses had already been selected or submitted, then the Response Editing option has been enabled in the survey and the Multiple Responses has been disabled in Answer Editing.
Are my responses to the survey anonymous and secure?
The anonymity of the responses will depend on the preference of the survey-makers. They can choose whether to collect responses anonymously or to track respondents.
Respondents Can’t Finish My Survey
Firstly, ensure that you have sent out the correct survey link to your respondents. Links are character and case sensitive, so the links could be broken if an extra space or lower-case letter has been used instead of an upper-case letter.
How will I know if my responses have been recorded?
The responses are being recorded in the Analyze Results section of your survey when the respondents click the navigation buttons Next and Done.

Why do surveys time out or not completely loading a page?
Why do surveys time out or not completely loading a page? A survey design with a lot of long questions, answer choices or images on a single page can cause problems in loading time.
Can the survey responses be saved and completed later?
Survey responses can be saved and be completed later if the survey maker has set the Collector settings to allow respondents to edit their responses.
Why there are responses already when I open the survey?
When you opened the survey link and there were answers selected or written already, then the survey maker has turned on the Response Editing option and has turned off the Multiple Responses option.
Once you have send out the correct survey link correctly to the correct respondents then rest assured that the responses are saved and recorded in the Analyze Results section of your survey
Respondents have Skipped the Required Questions
Questions that respondents didn’t answer are marked skipped in the Analyze Results section.
Why the answers in Matrix / Rating Scale question disappear or deselect?
If the Forced Ranking option is enabled on a Matrix / Rating Scale question and the respondent is trying to choose the same column choice for a different row, the previous answer choice will be deselected.
Why some answer choices have round buttons while others have squares?
Depending on the question settings, closed-ended question types will either have round radio buttons or square checkbox buttons.
Analyzing Survey Results
Analysis of survey results is a real-time experience in Surview. As soon as respondents start submitting their responses you can start analyzing survey results. It’s a great idea to check through the summaries for each question to get a feel for how people have responded.
Within Question Summaries tab you can view useful analytics including response counts and percentages for all close-ended questions.
Individual Responses
You can view each individual’s response to the survey questions. You can also track other important information such as: respondent’s IP address, time, date, etc.
In case you need to delete an individual response, follow these steps.

The order of responses when you view in Individual Responses tab is by the last date and time you or the respondent modified.

To view comments in the survey results, go to the Analyze Results section of your survey and click Question Summaries tab.
Once you have send out the correct survey link to the correct respondents then rest assured that the responses are saved and recorded in the Analyze Results section of your survey.
Respondents have Skipped the Required Questions
Questions that respondents didn’t answer are marked skipped in the Analyze Results section.
Does each survey respondent gets a response ID?
By default, a unique ID number is assigned to each survey respondent. This ID number is called Respondent ID which you will only see on the exported data.
Charts & Display Options
The Analyze Results section automatically generates eye-catching charts to represent your data.
Surview team has developed several chart types that are automatically generated to represent your survey results. The chart types are available depending on the question types used in the survey.
Display options enable you to polish the way your data displays in a chart or table.
The way colors are assigned to charts in reports is based on the number of the answer options. We have alternately shaded our charts by default.
Labels are used to display in chart the description of the answer options for a specific question. For reporting purposes, you may edit the labels as per your preferences.
Assigning Numerical Values to Answer Choices
To help you analyze the results, here are some ways you can assign numerical values to answer choices.
Charts are generated for each close-ended or numerical textboxes in the survey under the Question Summaries tab.
An average or weighted average is being calculated in different ways depending on what question types you used in your survey.
Enable the Basic Statistics to assign each answer choice a numeric value. Using these values, the minimum, maximum, mean, median, and standard deviation for the question will be calculated.
Data Trends help you to analyze the trend for responses received every day or week. Here you can monitor the changes in the response rate over time.
Filters & Reports
Using Rules to Analyze Your Data
Rules allow you to analyze your data more closely and the way most meaningful to you.
Rules allow you to analyze your data more closely and the way most meaningful to you. Filtering survey results help you to focus on a specific subset of your data based on certain criteria that you define.
Compare rules allow you do simple comparisons based on a single question. Compare the answer choices from one question across the rest of the survey to uncover interesting correlations in your data.
Show or hide certain survey questions or pages. Select the questions you want to show and we’ll hide the rest. Use show rules to focus the attention on the most interesting results worth sharing.
Views are customized snapshots of your survey results’ data. View help when you are analyzing survey result data by comparing the source data with data obtained after applying filer rules.
Exclude Respondents who Skipped Questions
To exclude respondents who skipped questions, create a Filter by Question and Answer with every answer option to that question included as the filter criteria.
Exporting Results
You can download the survey results in Summary and All Responses Collected formats.

Once you’re done analyzing your data, it’s time to share your survey results. By using rules, you can create custom reports to share to other people.
Survey results can be exported as an XLS spreadsheet and can be opened in Excel. Exported files are ready to be downloaded from the Data Exported window.
Survey results can be exported as PDF. Summary Data format shows the response counts, percentages and charts for each question.
Exporting Data of an Individual Question
Sometimes all you need is just one person’s response or data of an individual question.
After I downloaded my exports, where do they go?
We store a copy of your exports for 14 days so that they can be readily downloaded again.
The File Upload question lets respondents attach files in support to their response. This question type allows you to have your respondents upload a file or a document as part of their survey response.

Account Management
In your Surview account, your email serves as your username. Make sure to enter the updated/active email address so you can always log-in to your account hassle-free.
Choosing Your Preferred Language
To use Surview Account in your preferred language, change your language settings. You will also receive communications in the language you chose, such as welcome email and other account-related emails.
To upgrade your existing Surview account, you have to log in and choose a paid plan from our Subscription Plans & Pricing.
Downgrading Your Surview Account to a Free Plan
When your account has downgraded to a free plan, certain payable features continue to work in live surveys, but some may be restricted such as number of collectors available and filters in analyze stage.
Renew, Cancel or Delete your Surview Account
Once you have purchased one of our paid plans, you have the choice to renew, cancel, or delete your Surview account anytime. Just follow the procedures below or contact our sales team for assistance.
User’s Dashboard
From the dashboard you can create new surveys, view and work on existing surveys, clone surveys, send survey copies, transfer surveys, create survey templates, clear responses, delete surveys, view and copy the useful templates provided by Surview.
All Surveys section is the first part of the user’s dashboard. In this section, you can view a list of your existing and on-going surveys.
My Templates section displays the list of survey templates that you have created. From the All Surveys Section, you can choose one or more surveys to be saved as templates. It means you can convert any existing surveys from your list to a template.
In this section, you can use a survey template with pre-made questions that match your project’s goal. If you use a template, the survey designs and questions can still be personalized. You can edit questions, add or remove questions, and change the appearance and design of the survey.

Compare rules allow you do simple comparisons based on a single question. Compare the answer choices from one question across the rest of the survey to uncover interesting correlations in your data.
